Does the mere thought of decluttering your wardrobe make you feel like you're drowning? Don't worry, I will not let you drown! I've put together a series of guiding questions that I regularly use with my clients during their decluttering journey. By sharing them with you, I hope to make the entire process feel more easeful. Think of this list as your personal lifesaver. 😉
These questions are not just about sorting clothes, they're about helping you envision your ideal lifestyle and bringing you closer to achieving your #closetgoals. Let's do this together!
Guiding Questions
Use these questions to help you navigate decluttering your closet:
How long have you owned this item?
How did you feel when you last wore it?
When is the next time you think you’ll be able to wear it?
Do you see yourself wearing this item again?
Forget about everything else. Hold the item and be honest with yourself. Does it spark joy? (Does it add value to your life?)
Do you remember when you purchased this item? What were you actually trying to own when you purchased this item?
Do you feel like your best self when you wear this item?
You are out shopping; would you buy this item again today?
If it gets ruined (a stain, a tear, etc.), would you spend your time, money and energy to get it fixed?
Does this item truly reflect who you are now, or is it a remnant of a past version of yourself?
Does this piece align with your current lifestyle and activities, or is it more suited to a different phase of your life?
Consider the space it occupies. Is this item worth the physical space it takes up in your closet?
Are you keeping this item out of guilt or obligation, perhaps because it was a gift or a costly purchase?
Visualize your ideal wardrobe. Does this item contribute to that vision, or does it detract from it?
